If there is one errand that I simply hate, it’s going to the post office. The long lines, the hassle of having to be there during specific business hours, and the general inconvenience just make me put off that one errand often way too long!

I needed stamps this week to put on my thank you notes for gifts received after the birth of my son, and it was something that I kept either forgetting to do or I put off because the post office was nowhere near where my other errands were.

Today I explored the USPS website to see what I could get accomplished from home using their online tools and online ordering process. Wow! I was amazed at all of the services that the USPS offers online!

Here is a quick rundown of some of my favorite online services that USPS offers:

1. Order Stamps Online: This one feature would have helped me get my thank you notes out much earlier! Just create an account on the USPS website and select the stamps that you want to order and they are delivered to you free via the mail!

2. Click N Ship: Print labels and postage online and schedule a FREE carrier pickup of your packages! Pickup of your packages is free if you are able to have your packages labeled, stamped and ready to go at the same time that your regular mail is delivered. You can also schedule a pickup for a specific time for a flat fee. This works on Priority mail as well as 2-3 day delivery.

3. Send cards and gifts directly via the USPS website! The USPS offers a really cool service that allows you to create a custom card (or dozens of them….think Holiday cards people!) and you can even have the USPS enclose a gift card from a national retailer like Circuit City and other stores! Just visit the website, select your card, personalize it, choose the gift card you want to have enclosed and click SEND! This is great for those times when you know you have a birthday or other occasion looming and you aren’t sure your gift will get there on time!

With all of these great services on the USPS website, I no longer have an excuse for not having stamps, forgetting to buy a card and gift or being too lazy to get a package out.

I love this idea. I have two little ones and the post office is a nightmare. I’m glad you’ve checked this out for me. With having a business in my home I need this more than ever! Thanks.

Thanks for mentioning this! I just did battle the other night with the stamp machine, which didn’t want to take my (perfectly smooth!) dollar bill. I just needed some $.02 stamps…

Guess what I’ll be doing from here on out!
